Teaninich Distillery was established in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro. Teaninich means "house on the moor" in Gaelic. Teaninich is located in Alness, a small town about 30 minutes' drive north of Inverness. Although it is near Dalmore, Dalmore is on the coast, while Teaninich is nestled in an industrial area on the edge of the town. As a result, its appearance is unremarkable, and there are no scenic views nearby, so few people visit. Of course, the fact that the distillery itself is not open to the public is also one of the reasons.

When the distillery first opened, the rampant illicit whisky production in the area led to Teaninich facing extremely fierce competition. Fortunately, when the government introduced the Excise Act of 1823, the number of illicit distilleries gradually decreased, giving Teaninich room to develop. After this, except for a temporary closure between 1939 and 1946 due to a barley shortage, Teaninich continued to produce whisky and later became an important base spirit for DCL's blended whiskies. In 1830, Teaninich Distillery was taken over by John Munro, the founder's brother, a British Lieutenant General known for his philanthropy.

After DCL took over, a modern new distillery with six brand new stills was built next to the old one. In those days, all four stills in the old distillery and the six stills in the new distillery were in operation, demonstrating the prosperity of the whisky industry. However, between 1998 and 1999, the old distillery was demolished. More uniquely, in 2000, a mash filter press, typically used in breweries, was installed to replace the mash tun, making it the first distillery in Scotland to install such equipment. The process involves pumping the mash (a mixture of hot water and crushed malted barley) into a Mash Filter tank containing cloth filter plates. An air compressor then filters out the wort, which is then sent to the fermentation tanks. Most Teaninich whiskies on the market are from the new distillery, or a blend of the old and new distilleries, making it extremely difficult to study the style of the old distillery's whisky.

Aroma: Cream, peanuts, almonds, and a faint creaminess, then gradually transitioning to a slightly grassy, clean vanilla, and citrus sweetness, simple and clear.
Palate: A slight vanilla and citrus sweetness, faint citrus peel oil, and a hint of white pepper for zest.
Finish: A slight tannic dryness and a light smokiness.
