Penfolds Bin 138 GSM – Barossa Valley Red Wine

Penfolds Bin 138 is one of the iconic blended red wines from the classic Australian winery Penfolds. Sourced from old vine vineyards in Barossa Valley, it draws inspiration from Southern Rhône styles. This wine is meticulously crafted from a blend of three grape varieties: Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro (Mourvèdre), combining fruitiness, spice, and structure to showcase the depth and complexity of Australian blends.

Bin 138 uses Grenache for its softness and red fruit notes, Shiraz for rich black fruit and body, and Mataro to add structure and spice. The wine displays a deep red color with a complex aroma: predominantly dark berries like blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant, accompanied by notes of spice, licorice, pepper, and roasted cocoa. On the palate, the fruit is vibrant, featuring flavors of black cherry and plum. The mid-palate reveals layers of spice, oak, and chocolate, with firm yet balanced tannins and well-integrated acidity.

The finish is medium to long, with lingering delicate flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and spice, concluding elegantly and thoughtfully. This wine is aged for approximately 12–15 months in old oak barrels, preserving the purity of the fruit while imparting a rounded body.

Recommended serving temperature is around 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes after opening will allow its aromatic layers to develop more fully. It pairs well with steak, lamb chops, stews, or Mediterranean dishes, and is also perfect for sharing with friends.

Penfolds Bin 138 GSM is not only suitable for immediate enjoyment but also possesses aging potential, making it an excellent choice for both collection and the dinner table.
