Dailuaine, established in 1853, was the first distillery in Scotland to be known for its pagoda-shaped roofs. It uses stainless steel condensers to preserve its traditional characteristics, resulting in a distinct personality.
Diageo is renowned as an expert in single malt whiskies, owning 27 malt whisky distilleries. However, some of the whiskies produced by these distilleries are primarily supplied to well-known blended whisky brands, and they rarely release their own branded single malt whiskies, only bottling a small portion for employees and limited sales at distillery visitor centers. The exceptional flavors of these whiskies have received unanimous praise from critics, leading to an overwhelming demand.
To cater to whisky enthusiasts, Diageo decided to release limited quantities from 10 of these distilleries annually for specific markets. The original intention for this series of whiskies was for distillery employees to taste and collect them. The labels directly incorporate the unique flora and fauna found near the distilleries, hence the name "Flora & Fauna Collection."
Dailuaine 16 Year Old is part of Diageo's Flora & Fauna series. The whisky is matured in sherry casks, imparting rich aromas and a smooth mouthfeel. Only 2% of the distillery's annual production is bottled as original single malt whisky, making it highly precious and a must-have for whisky lovers.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet sherry aroma, butterscotch, and caramel scents reminiscent of Christmas fruitcake.
Palate: Dry sherry wood flavor with a slight sweetness and smokiness. Fruit and mixed nuts flavors then emerge, completing the palate.
Finish: Cereal and shortbread aromas linger, with a continued woody character, very mature, ending sweetly with berry fruits.
