Located on the north coast of Islay Island, La Forge Winery has a history of 190 years. Because of the strongest sea breeze on the island and the traditional steaming process that has not changed since the establishment of the factory, it has shaped the most primitive Airey. The style of whiskey, so it is recognized worldwide as the most representative Alley whiskey distillery.
La Forge Distillery is the first whisky distillery in Scotland’s history to be independently run by a woman. After the death of the owner Ian Hunter in 1954, his wife Bessie took over La Forge Distillery and insisted on brewing traditions until retirement in 1972. The current distillery The traditional floor germination work is still continued, 1/4 of the malt is made in-house, and 3/4 of the malt is made of Poet Ellen malt
The water source of the winery is taken from Kilbride Dam, which flows through the thick peat layer and crosses the quartzite layer to produce soft water rich in peat flavor, making the wine produced with delicate and diverse flavors.
